Fuel Storage Location Limits

Chapter: C6

In Simple Terms

F1 cars must store their fuel in a specific box-shaped area on the chassis. The fuel tank can extend from the front of the car up to a certain point at the rear, and must stay within the width limits. There's one exception: a small amount of fuel is allowed in the survival cell (the protective cockpit structure) under separate rules.

  • All fuel must be stored within defined coordinate boundaries on the car (ahead of XPU=0, rearward of RS-FWD-FUEL-LIMIT, inboard of Y=450)
  • The survival cell is the only exception and can contain fuel under Article C5.9.6
  • These limits ensure fuel is positioned safely within the chassis structure during crashes and normal operation
  • Fuel storage location is part of the technical regulations to maintain safety and performance standardization
