Maximum Fuel Tank Pressure

Chapter: C6

In Simple Terms

F1 fuel tanks have a safety limit on how much pressure can build up inside. The fuel bladder (the flexible container holding the fuel) cannot experience more than 1.0 bar of gauge pressure, which is a safety measure to prevent tank rupture and fuel leaks during races.

  • Maximum internal pressure on fuel bladder is capped at 1.0 barG (bar gauge)
  • This is a safety regulation to prevent fuel tank damage and dangerous fuel leaks
  • The pressure limit applies throughout the entire race weekend and all conditions
  • Teams must design fuel systems and pressurization equipment to stay within this limit
Official FIA Text

The maximum internal pressure exerted on the fuel bladder must not exceed 1.0 barG.
