Article C6.2.3
Self-Sealing Breakaway Valve
Chapter: C6
In Simple Terms
F1 fuel lines must have special valves that automatically snap shut and separate if there's a crash or impact. These valves are designed to break away before the fuel line itself gets damaged, preventing dangerous fuel leaks.
- All fuel lines between tank and engine require self-sealing breakaway valves
- The valve must separate at less than 50% of the force needed to break the fuel line or pull it from the tank
- This safety feature prevents fuel spillage during accidents by breaking away before the line itself breaks
- The valve automatically seals both sides when it separates, containing fuel and preventing fires
