Location of lubricating oil system

Chapter: C7

In Simple Terms

F1 cars must keep all their oil system components in the front and central areas of the car. Oil tanks and related parts cannot be positioned too far back along the car's length (behind the XDIF 150 reference point) or too far out to the sides (beyond the Y=750 line). This rule ensures the oil system doesn't compromise safety or aerodynamic fairness.

  • All lubricating oil system components must be located forward of XDIF = 150 (a longitudinal reference point on the car)
  • No oil system parts can extend outboard beyond Y = 750 (a lateral/sideways boundary)
  • This restricts oil tanks and related equipment to the front and center portions of the chassis
  • The rule prevents teams from gaining aerodynamic advantages or safety compromises through rear or side-mounted oil systems
Official FIA Text

No other part of the car containing lubricating oil may be situated behind XDIF = 150 or outboard of Y=750.
