Hydraulic fluid lines - removable connectors

Chapter: C7

In Simple Terms

F1 cars cannot have hydraulic fluid connections that can be easily disconnected inside the cockpit. This rule exists to prevent drivers from accidentally disconnecting critical hydraulic systems during a race, which could cause dangerous failures in braking or steering.

  • All hydraulic fluid lines in the cockpit must be permanently connected, not removable
  • This applies to all hydraulic systems that operate within the driver's area
  • The rule prevents accidental system failures that could compromise safety-critical functions like brakes or power steering
  • Removable connectors are only permitted outside the cockpit area
Official FIA Text
