Article C8.16.3
Camera housings
Chapter: C8
In Simple Terms
When an F1 car doesn't have a camera installed in a particular location, teams must install a dummy housing (called a camera housing) in its place. This dummy must be in the exact same spot, and be identical in size, shape, and weight to the camera it's replacing, so it doesn't give the team an unfair advantage.
- Camera housings are placeholders used when actual cameras aren't installed
- They must be positioned in the exact same location as the real camera would be
- The housing must match the camera's size, shape, and mass perfectly
- This rule prevents teams from removing cameras and gaining weight or aerodynamic benefits
Official FIA Text
Camera housings must be fitted in the same location as cameras, satisfy all relevant regulations, and be identical in size, shape, and mass to the camera in lieu of which they are fitted.
