Data acquisition system isolation
Technical Regulations
Article C8.4.2
Data acquisition system isolation
Chapter: C8
In Simple Terms
Teams can use extra data collection systems beyond the official FIA equipment, but these systems must be completely separated and not connected to the car's main control computer, except for basic power, ground, and data transmission lines. This prevents teams from using their own electronics to gain unfair advantages over the standard FIA system.
- Additional data systems must be physically separate from the FIA Standard ECU
- Electrical isolation is required except for three allowed connections: power supply, ground, and communication links
- This rule prevents teams from secretly modifying or enhancing the official control electronics
- Teams can still collect their own telemetry data independently for analysis and development
Official FIA Text
