Article C9.2.2
Clutch Operating Device - Identification Points
Chapter: C9
In Simple Terms
F1 teams cannot design clutch pedals with special markings, notches, or features that help drivers find specific positions or hold the pedal at certain points. The clutch must be a smooth, uniform pedal without any aids to help the driver identify where they are in the pedal travel.
- Clutch pedals cannot have identifiable points or markers that drivers can feel or see
- Teams cannot add features that help drivers hold the pedal at specific positions
- The regulation ensures all drivers rely on feel and experience rather than mechanical assists
- This maintains consistency and prevents unfair advantages from advanced clutch designs
Official FIA Text
Designs which allow specific points along the travel range of the clutch operating device to be identified by the driver or assist the driver to hold a position are not permitted.
