Article C9.5.2
Gearbox - Combined Mass
Chapter: C9
In Simple Terms
F1 teams must ensure their gearbox and related drivetrain components weigh at least 22kg combined. This minimum weight requirement prevents teams from making these parts dangerously light, which could compromise reliability and safety.
- The combined mass of driveline and gear-change components cannot be lighter than 22kg
- This applies to the gearbox assembly and all directly connected drivetrain components
- The rule ensures structural integrity and prevents excessive weight reduction in critical mechanical systems
- Teams must verify total weight compliance during technical inspections
