Forward Gear Ratio Pair Specifications
Chapter: C9
In Simple Terms
F1 gearbox gear pairs must meet minimum physical specifications to ensure durability and safety. Each gear pair needs to be at least 12mm wide at its root, weigh at least 600g (not counting the shaft), and have smoothed edges with specific angle and radius limits.
- Minimum gear width of 12mm at root diameter to prevent structural failure
- Minimum mass of 600g per gear pair (excluding shaft/collar) for strength and durability
- Chamfer edges limited to maximum 10 degrees with radius not exceeding 2.0mm for safety and precision
Official FIA Text
