Article C9.9.1
Torque Transfer Systems - Prohibition
Chapter: C9
In Simple Terms
F1 cars are not allowed to have systems that transfer power from a wheel that's spinning slower to one that's spinning faster. This rule prevents teams from using clever mechanical devices to help one wheel get more grip or traction by taking power from another wheel.
- No devices can transfer rotational force from slower to faster rotating wheels
- This prevents unfair traction advantages and maintains equal weight distribution of mechanical grip
- The rule applies to all torque transfer systems, regardless of their sophistication or purpose
- Violation constitutes a technical infringement of the chassis regulations
Official FIA Text
