Clay Regazzoni won the first official San Marino GP. Despite being in Italy, it was a separate GP for the tiny republic.

The Betrayal

Didier Pironi ignored "SLOW" signs to pass teammate Gilles Villeneuve on the last lap. Villeneuve was devastated - he died 2 weeks later at Zolder, never having spoken to Pironi again.

The Darkest Weekend

On Saturday, Roland Ratzenberger was killed at Villeneuve corner. On Sunday, Ayrton Senna died at Tamburello. The weekend that changed F1 safety forever.
